Adoption of USA Waiting Children

A growing number of Canadians are considering the adoption of children in the care of State Governments.

These are the waiting children of the USA. They are over two years of age and have been apprehended from their birth families because of abuse or neglect.

Special rules under the Hague Convention in the USA apply to these adoptions. Frequently, the US State involved will pay a monthly support amount to the adopting parents until the child is 19 years of age.

Most states do not place many restrictions on who may adopt, however, these children have special needs and challenges which an adoptive parent must be prepared for.
