The first step of any adoption, local or international, is the homestudy.
The homestudy consists of an assessment component and an educational component.
Assessment usually includes the following:
- 5 - 6 meetings, over several months, with a Sunrise Social Worker
- a Criminal Record Check
- A Ministry of Children and Family Development Prior Contact Check
- Four personal references
- A medical check-up
- Financial statements
- Copies of birth, marriage and divorce certificates
Educational component
- Is required by BC Adoption legislation
- Is available entirely on-line from Sunrise
