This annual picnic is a treasured tradition at Sunrise.

Mother's day, celebrated since the days of Ancient Greece, is observed on the second Sunday of May. Ever since 1990 when it was first celebrated in Seattle, Birthmother's Day has been observed on the Saturday before Mother's Day.

This day is widely recognized throughout the United States and is gaining recognition in Canada.

Since 2004 the Sunrise Birthmothers' Support Group has held a picnic to celebrate Birthmother's Day. Last year's picnic was attended by over 150 people - birthmothers, adoptive parents, adopted children and adults, as well as their friends and families. As an agency we support the continuation of this special day and invite you to attend:

The picnic is potluck - we will have informative displays, fun family activities, and a short ceremony.
