Japan is a small program that is an option for a few adoptive parents per year. The children are proposed to adoptive parents at birth and the parents can travel to Japan when the child is just a few weeks old.
Japan's requirements of adoptive parents are:
- under 43 years of age
- married for three years
- be childless
Japan requires that the adoptive parents travel to Japan, to meet the representative from Sunrise's partner agency, before the child is born.
In Japan, the birth parents choose the adoptive family for their child. A couple of any racial background may apply, but couples of Japanese descent will likely be given preference.
