Mexico Adoptions

We work with a facilitator in Mexico who has facilitated adoptions in Mexico for many years. Our facilitator works with various orphanages and assists our families on the ground in Mexico with respect to placement, legal process and immigration.

The Parents

  • Must be over the age of 25 years; there is no upper age limit.

  • If you are a couple you must be married for at least 3 years.

  • MXCD does accept same sex married couples.

  • Single applicants may apply, both male and female.

  • Parents must demonstrate the financial means to support the physical and educational needs of the child.

  • Applicants must be in good physical and mental health.

The Children

  • The children are typically relinquished or abandoned and come from complex family backgrounds .

  • Children that can be adopted internationally are 5 years or older. Mexico may, in its discretion, place a child under the age of 5 years if the child has a physical or mental disability, suffers from a disease that is costly to treat or is part of a sibling group involving children older than 5 years who are also being adopted.

  • The greatest need is for families to be open to school-age children, sibling groups and children with identified needs.

Relative Adoptions

Sunrise also facilitates relative adoptions (the adoption of a child related to you) from Mexico.

The program is open to adoptive parents who live in British Columbia, and other provinces in Canada (except residents of Ontario and Quebec).
