Adoptions from the USA are completed pursuant to the Hague Convention on Intercountry Adoption.
The majority of adoptions that we complete from the USA are newborn adoptions. The birth parents choose the adoptive parents they wish to place with prior to the child being born. In many respects the process resembles a domestic adoption. However, the process varies from state to state.
Adoptive families work with Sunrise and with an Adoption Agency in the United States that is accredited to complete outgoing adoptions under the Hague. Each state has its own adoption legislation and the requirements for adoption varies from state to state.
Sunrise also facilitates relative adoptions (the adoption of a child related to you) from USA.
Residents of Ontario and Quebec are required to use agencies in their home province.
