LESOTHO ADOPTIONS
Lesotho is a signatory to The Hague Adoption Convention.
The Lesotho Central Authority has accredited Sunrise to assist with finding families for children.
The Parents
Must be residents of British Columbia.
Adoptive parents should be under 60 years old. Lesotho does consider the age of the parent and age of the child when finding an appropriate match. An older couple is likely to be matched with an older child.
Married couples and single women may adopt from Lesotho. There is no length of marriage requirement.
The adoptive parents should have adequate financial resources to provide a good upbringing to the child.
There is no strict limit on the number of children already in the home, but Lesotho prefers there to be less than 5 children already in the home.
Adoptive parents must be in good mental and physical health with no known conditions that would impact their ability to adequately parent the child.
The adoptive parents must not take drugs or cannabis or have a history of drug taking.
The time frame to be chosen is approximately 3 to 4 years. The process may be shortened if a family is open to siblings, a child between 6 and 8 years old or a HIV + child.
The Children
The children are between 1 – 8 years of age.
Sibling groups and single children.
The children are living in Child Care Centres.
Common for children to be positive for HIV.
