ROMANIA ADOPTIONS
Romania is a signatory to The Hague Adoption Convention.
The National Authority for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Children and Adoption (ANDPCDA) has accredited Sunrise to assist with finding families for children.
The Parents
Residents of British Columbia and residents of any other province in Canada (except Ontario and Quebec).
At least one of the applicants must be a Romanian citizen (hold a valid Romanian passport).
The couple must be married. Common-law is not accepted.
Single applicants can apply.
Unfortunately, same-sex couples are not permitted to adopt at this time.
There is no age limit however the applicants must be at least 18 years older than the adopted child.
The applicants must live in Romania for at least 3 months for bonding with the child they are adopting and finalisation of the adoption process.
Applicants should have good financial security.
Must be in good mental and physical health with no known life-threatening medical conditions or suffer from any psychological conditions.
No criminal record or prior involvement with child protection services.
Not previously or currently using cannabis.
The Children
Children are at least 2 years old, as domestic adoption in Romania must be explored first for at least one year before a child can be adopted internationally.
Sunrise can only facilitate adoptions of children up to the age of 8 years.
Children in Romania commonly have developmental delays and suffer from the impacts of institutionalization.
Sibling adoptions are possible in Romania.
Relative Adoptions
Sunrise facilitates relative adoptions (the adoption of a child related to you) from Romania. The adoptive parent must be related within the fourth degree of kinship to the child and at least one of the adoptive parents must be a Romanian citizen.
