Important Adoption Policies - Minimum One Year Requirement

• Under BC adoption policy, children joining a family must generally be spaced at least one year apart. This is to ensure appropriate adjustment time for both the child and the family.
   

• If prospective adoptive parents are selected by more than one birth mother at or around the same time, they may proceed with only one adoption placement.
   

• If a prospective adoptive parent becomes pregnant while actively waiting for an adoption placement, adoption planning is typically placed on hold to allow time to reassess timing and readiness.
